The CBS television network is taking the madness online. For the first time ever, free, live, streaming coverage of the NCAA basketball tournament’s early rounds will be available over the internet. According to the Los Angeles Times, CBS’s March Madness on Demand (http://ncaasports.com/mmod) will include special web-only commercials, and local games will be blacked out.
Since a limited number of viewers can watch at one time (probably a couple hundred thousand), late loggers-on will be put in a virtual “waiting room” where they’ll see a scoreboard and an indication of their place in line. CBS has high expectations for the service, since so many people root for distant college teams… or care about how the results will affect their betting pools.
And for the ClipBlast community, it’s just one more example of high quality video content moving to the web.
